2017 Annual Report
(JULY 1, 2016 - JUNE 30, 2017)
A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
2017 marks our twentieth year of partnering with farmers for the forest. The past two decades have been full of deeply committed farmers and wonderfully enthusiastic supporters. Without you, there would be no Sustainable Harvest International.
This year, we opened a new office in highly deforested northern Belize, partnering with 61 families in a region left desperate and degraded by the sugarcane industry. In Panama, farmers collaborated with community partners to have an even greater impact on their environment. Families in Honduras are eagerly working on business development plans and investing in local rural banks.
Meanwhile, our US headquarters has focused on growth. Many of you helped secure our commitment to the next 20 years by contributing to a landmark anniversary fundraising campaign. The life-changing solutions embraced by partner families in our current programs must reach more farmers. We’re working toward doubling our number of partner families in the next five years and expanding our reach exponentially by 2030.
There is very real potential for the world’s 500 million smallholder farmers to alleviate poverty and save our planet through organic, regenerative farming. With your support through generous 20th Anniversary gifts, we’re recommitting to helping as many farmers as possible get there.
Thanks to you, word continues to spread about the work we’re doing, farmers continue to thrive, and more forest is preserved every year.
Stay tuned for more news from us in the coming year about expanding our impact. Even as we continue to grow, we’ll always stay true to our values—values that have helped 3,000 families regenerate over 25,000 acres of degraded land while improving their well-being.
LOOK AT WHAT YOU MADE POSSIBLE!
Thanks to your support, farmers partner with us without financial obligation--our program is free to those it serves.
Participating farmers increase their income, improve their livelihoods, and protect the environment and biodiversity we all depend on.
