Introducing Robin, our New Communications Coordinator!
Shortly after receiving an MFA in Creative Writing from Northern Michigan University, Robin McCarthy returned to Maine and joined our communications team. Welcome, Robin!
This week, Robin is in Belize facilitating a staff storytelling training. Following the training, she’ll be visiting partner families in Otoxha, Belize and getting fully immersed in our program.
While in Belize, Robin has taken over our Instagram. Follow her trip at @sustharvintl or #2016robintakeover! Check out some of her photos below.
WHO IS ROBIN?
Robin McCarthy champions our ongoing communications projects. Born and raised in Maine, Robin has worked in environmental advocacy in Washington, DC, been a teacher and editor in Michigan, and cooked at sea on charter cruises from New England to the Arctic. In each of these positions, she has been fascinated by how communities are shaped by the environments they depend on. Robin loves reading, writing, and most forms of gallivanting outdoors.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT SUSTAINABLE HARVEST INTERNATIONAL?
In addition to the practical application of creative skills required by the position, Robin was drawn to Sustainable Harvest International because of the values-driven emphasis of our mission. “It was clear to an outside visitor that Sustainable Harvest International is committed to long-term influence that is both environmentally effective and empowering to real people who depend on land for their livelihoods,” she says.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT ROBIN?
Robin once lived aboard a very small sailboat with her partner over the course of a few Maine winters. She likes to read, write, knit, bike ride, and hang out on boats with her partner, Elias. And, she really loves group exercise classes (“the more humiliating, the better,” she says.)
We’re delighted to have Robin on our team!
